Electronics Recycling

Keeping Winthrop Harbor Beautiful, Year-Round

Winthrop Harbor is fortunate to sit along the shores of Lake Michigan, and protecting that natural beauty is a responsibility we all share. Old televisions, computers, and other electronics contain materials such as lead, mercury, and cadmium that can leach into soil and groundwater if they end up in a landfill or dumped along a roadside. They also contain valuable metals and plastics that can be recovered and reused, reducing the need for new mining and manufacturing.

That's why the Village of Winthrop Harbor offers residents a free, year-round electronics drop-off program at Public Works. Instead of letting unwanted or broken devices collect dust in a closet or garage, bring them in and we'll make sure they are recycled responsibly. It's a simple step that keeps harmful materials out of our environment, conserves resources, and helps keep our neighborhoods, parks, and shoreline clean for generations to come.

  2. 2Remove the hard drive from computers and laptops and keep or destroy it yourself.
  3. 3Perform a factory reset on tablets, recorders, and other devices, and remove any memory cards or USB drives.
